Cadiz Street: Coming Home to Uptown
After years in Manhattan, this family of four moved back to New Orleans, where he grew up. They bought an Uptown house the builder was still finishing, and the builder agreed to take their wishes into account before it was done. That gave us a rare chance to make design decisions during construction instead of after.
New rooms from an old porch. The house had no playroom and no gym. We turned the side porch into both, so the kids have a place to create and a place to climb, swing, and burn off energy.
Color over the builder's basics. We worked with the finishes the builder had already chosen and made the house theirs with all of the paint colors, wallpaper, lighting, mirrors, hardware, and furniture.
A thread of curves. Arches and waves repeat from room to room: the blue arch pendant over the dining table, the arched headboard wall in the primary bedroom, the wavy green mirrors in the kids' bath, and the squiggle chandelier in the playroom. It's what makes the house feel designed as a whole.
Built for a working family. Both parents work from home, so the house needed real places to focus alongside rooms made for two little ones: a playroom, a gym, a cheerful shared bath, and a bedroom with a reading canopy.
The result is a house that feels bright, personal, and completely theirs, ready for the family's next chapter back home.
